Stout, Elihu, 1786-1860

Elihu Stout (1786-1860) was a printer and publisher in Vincennes, Knox County, Indiana. He published Indiana's first newspaper, the "Indiana Gazette" from 1894 to 1806, and the "Western Sun" from 1807 to 1845. John Francis Bayard (1786-1853) was an officer in the French army under Napoleon, and a Vincennes businessman. Henry S. Thomas Alexander Wood was born in Montgomery County, Illinois on March 1, 1837. In 1852, he crossed the plains to Oregon, but returned east later to study for the ministry. In 1862, he married and returned to Oregon where he worked various jobs until accepting the Methodist pastorate in Roseburg.
